The Waddick Fuels Ridgetown Open Competitive (ROC) curling league commenced play on November 5th, 2012. Your faithful scribe has missed a couple of weeks so this article will be a synopsis of the three weeks of play already completed. Come on out to watch some local curling action every Monday evening starting at 7:00 p.m.

Rob McKinlay Rink

Rob is trying to defend the championship won last spring. Rob started off with a game against Sheila Young’s new team. And things were back and forth until Sheila took 5 in the seventh end to hand Rob the loss. Rob had a bye the second week and in the third played Jim McKinlay’s rink (skipped by Crawford McKinlay). Rob let Crawford get a bit of a lead and at the half way point Crawford was up by one. Rob’s team showed their championship colours though and lunged ahead to a 7-3 lead after seven. Rob has one win so far.

Sheila Young Rink

Sheila’s new rink won to Rob McKinlay the first week and then played Jim McKinlay in week 2. The teams traded ends but Jim kept taking three to Sheila’s one. Jim won 11-4. Sheila took the next week off with the bye.

Jim McKinlay Rink

Week 1 saw Jim take on Doug Young’s rink. Doug had a lot of rust in this one and couldn’t make much so that Jim was up 5-1 after six ends. Doug couldn’t catch up and Jim won this one. Jim’s got two wins and one loss.

Glen Meredith Rink

Glen started the season off with a bye. The second week saw Glen run into the buzz saw which is Peter Fisher. Peter was up 4-3 after three and then continued to score to make the final 12-3 for Peter. Glen’s team then played Doug Young and had a similar fate losing 7-3. Glen starts the year off with two losses, but will turn things around soon.

Bob Ingram Rink

Bob found a replacement for Robbie Ingram who deserted the rink by going off to school. This hasn’t affected the teams play though and he started off with a big 10-3nwin against Tom Goens. Bob played Doug Young in week 2 and had a little trouble getting things set up properly. Doug was able to take the win by a 6-3 score. Week 3 had Bob taking on Scott McKinlay’s foursome. Scott had a rough go and Bob won 8-0. Bob is at 2 wins and one loss.

Tom Goens Rink

Tom got off to a rough start with the 10-3 loss to Bob. In week 2 Tom came up against Scott McKinlay (with Rob McKinlay filling in for Scott) and was able to get a tie which are not being broken this year. Tom then ran into the Peter Fisher juggernaut and lost that one by a score of 6-1 to start the year with one tie and two losses.

Scott McKinlay Rink

Scott started off the season on the right note by stopping the Peter Fisher team in their tracks by taking one in the eighth end to break up a tie game. Week 2 saw the first tie game of the league with Tom’s team and week three was the tough loss against Bob. Scott starts the year off with one win and two losses.

Peter Fisher Rink

The Peter Fisher juggernaut was stopped early this year when they lost to Scott. However, wins against Glen and Tom have them with two wins and a loss.

Doug Young Rink

Doug started with a loss to Jim in week 1. He commented that the pressure of a perfect season was off his shoulders. Doug came back with a win against Bob in week 2 and a win against Glen in week 3. Doug’s rink is starting the season at two wins and a loss.

The season has started off with lots of great curling. After three weeks there are no undefeated teams. Could this be the year of parity in curling? Come on out Monday nights at 7 to find out.
